TITLE: Program Assistant, Ocean Science Education

Assists in managing projects, partnerships and communication associated with the New England Ocean Science Education Collaborative. http://www.neosec.org/

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist with citizen science program for New England-based summer camps.

a. Coordinate training workshop (June 2011, June 2012).

b. Coordinate Teen Ocean Summit (October 2011, October 2012).

c. Connect group with institutions around the world using similar protocols.

d. Maintain Facebook page and/or other platforms for youth exchanges across partner institutions.

2. Coordinate and conduct youth field service program.

a. Manage logistics for four one-day field service outings for teens each year.

b. Develop and deliver pre- and post-outing, complementary education programs for participants.

c. Contribute to evaluation of program impact.

3. Provide administrative and communications support to Project Manager.

a. Develop and implement a systematic schedule and format for tracking progress and processing reimbursements to partner organizations, based on formal subcontracts, project budgets and reporting requirements, and internal procedures.

b. Coordinate regular conference calls and meetings of the New England Ocean Science Education Collaborative (NEOSEC).

c. Maintain NEOSEC website and online collaboration platform.

4. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Minimum Training and Experience

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a marine-related field and 2 to 4 years’ job-related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in field-based teaching and monitoring and/or research is required, preferably with youth.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability and desire to connect with youth through environmental education programming.·

  • · Excellent listening and writing abilities, and comfort working with multiple audiences and stakeholders.

Demonstrated proficiency in budget tracking and/or management and event planning, and organization skills.·

Familiar with internet-based collaboration and communications tools.·
