Mission: The MSC is an internationally recognized research institution that focuses on:
• The ocean environment
• Marine life and its diversity
• Ecology, and
• Discovering biotechnological and medical potentials in the sea
We invite scientists from around the world to spend varying periods of time conducting research at the Marine Science Center.

Ocean Literacy:

Principle 1: The Earth has one big ocean with many features
Lecture/film series; academic instruction and research

Principle 2: The ocean and life in the ocean shape the features of the Earth
Outreach programs related to coastal habitats (onsite visits, in school presentations, and Coastal Ocean Science Academy for high school students); tertiary-level academic instruction and research

Principle 3: The ocean is a major influence on weather and climate
Lecture/film series; tertiary-level academic instruction and research

Principle 4: The ocean makes Earth habitable
Lecture/film series; tertiary-level academic instruction and research

Principle 5: The ocean supports a diversity of life and ecosystems.
Outreach programs related to marine ecology (onsite visits, in school presentations, and Coastal Ocean Science Academy for high school students); tertiary-level academic instruction and research

Principle 6: The ocean is connected to us and we are connected to it.
Outreach programs (onsite visits, in school presentations, and Coastal Ocean Science Academy for high school students) teaching research and investigation skills, and then considering resource management and use; tertiary-level academic instruction and research

Principle 7: The ocean is largely unexplored.
Lecture/film series; tertiary-level academic instruction and research

Ocean Observing:

In the outreach program, students use the data to learn about data gathering and presentation. At least two labs here use OO information for things like water temperature, water quality, weather, spatial/temporal changes.
